Derek Parra, Eisenhower graduate of 1988, after his surprising silver medal in the 5,000 meter race on Saturday, came back and did even better. Not only did Parra win the gold medal in the 1,500 meter race, but he set a new world record with a time of 1 minute, 43.95 seconds.
Parra, originally from San Bernardino, California, will be celebrated next Tuesday, with a parade, rally, and visit to his elementary school, Roosevelt. The parade will go from the Orange Show to the Stampede Stadium at 10 a.m. EHS will be in the parade--their band, JROTC, Dance Group, Cheerleaders, MeCHA club and others. There will be a celebration from 11-1 at Stampede Stadium where the EHS Madrigals will sing. Frisbie MS will also be participating in the parade as he was a Frisbie student, too.
In addition, the city of San Bernardino proclaimed February 19-22 as Derek Parra, Go for the Olympics Gold Days. Derek Parra is the first San Bernardino County native to win Olympic gold in either the summer or winter Olympics.
Congratulations from Eisenhower High School to Derek Parra!!
