As was featured in the San Bernardino Sun of December 19, 2000, EHS student Laura Dinkins is known for more than just playing basketball. However, instead of recounting her skills as a basketball player, readers learned how Dinkins gave the gift of life to her sister. In the Los Angeles Times edition of February 20, 2002, a new set of readers are also learning about this brave and courageous young lady.
Dinkins donated stem cells in her blood for her sister who suffers from sickle cell anemia. At the time Dinkins was getting ready to play her second year with the Eisenhower Eagles. But three weeks after donating, she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus that kept her out of most of the season. All of this was on top of losing her father to a stroke the year before.
Now, Dinkins is back and is having the best season of her high school career. The Eagles are in the playoffs and Laura Dinkins is right there with them.
