Sergeant Simon Cannon, graduate of 1996, came back to EHS on February 4, 2003, to re-enlist in the United States Army.

Sgt. Cannon, currently stationed at Fort Irwin, wanted to come back to Ike for his ceremony. As the re-enlistment ceremony is a special day for its personnel, the military tries to accommodate the wishes of the honoree.

While Cannon was at Ike, he was involved in the MCJROTC program for four years, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Colonel Gerald Polyasko-USMC (retired), instructor of the ROTC program at Ike was asked to administer the oath. As he stated at the ceremony, "It is both an honor and a privilege." (Any active duty or retired officer from any branch of the military is permitted to administer the oath, as they are acting under the auspices of the President of the United States.)

Attending the ceremony were Sgt. Cannon's family, as well as several members of the Eisenhower staff, who were delighted to witness the reenlistment.

Sgt. Cannon will spend the rest of the year at Fort Irwin, after which he and his family will be transferred to Germany in January of 2004.
