The Sun newspaper for the past couple of weeks has been featuring a discussion on standardized testing. This past Sunday, September 26, 2004, the focus of the article was on the effect of testing on college preparation and teachers who prepare students for more than the basics.
According to The Sun's article, teachers whose assignments force students to think critically every day, can help push kids toward college. One of those featured is Eisenhower alumni and current U.S. History teacher, Ron Miller. Mr. Miller's regular college prep classes work every bit as hard as the Advanced Placement (AP) class, in that students analyze, find answers, and weigh historical information against current events. As one of Mr. Miller's students was quoted: "He asks us the why of things."
