The Inland Empire Mariachi Youth Education Foundation made their Capital Hill debut on Monday, May 1. They were the guests at a reception hosted by Representative Joe Baca, D-Rialto. Mr. Baca helped sponsor the trip to Washington for the group. The Rialto-based group will perform twice on Wednesday, May 3; at an outdoor appearance at the Upper Senate Park, and at an evening performance for the National Council of La Raza.
Locally, Eisenhower student Raquel Vega, sang "The Star Spangled Banner" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday. Before the performance, the chaperones helped Vega, who is blind, to explore the memorial by touch. The experience was special for Vega who was thrilled to perform at the same place as her two heroes, Marian Anderson and Martin Luther King, Jr.
